Pretty and Flawless: Mac Mineralized Skin finish in Dark Review

There are many days I want to just wake up go to work and not even bother with foundation, blush, primer the whole nine yards. Low key and put together is the goal but it is a little more challenging for a woman like myself because there are a few spots in my face I consider a little uneven and that shows a lot of shine. Instances like that is when I refer to Mac Mineralized Skin finish a product that I have been going back and forth with for years.
Macs skin finish is described by Mac as "A dome shaped powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural-matte finish. Provides perfect low coverage. Use to set and fix foundation or as a touch-up throughout the day". I totally agree with this description. This powder is beautiful it can be added to the face bare to even out skin tone, it can be added over foundation to set it in place. It provides light to medium coverage on the skin and if you are of a lighter skin you can use it to contour and add depth to your face. Also because it is baked you can wet your brush and apply it more heavily on the face as well as use it as an eyeshadow. For lighter skinned ladies it can be used as a blush, highlight or a bronzer. I generally use it alone on days I want to be low key with my makeup application, or as a finishing powder over my foundation.
There are many different shades of this product that are suitable for ladies of varying shades and this product is long wearing  and comes packed with a lot of product.  For ladies that are darker skinned I suggested try this product in a well lit area on natural skin because Mac sells both a dark and deep dark versions and sometimes even for deeper skins the deep dark can be a bit much.
When I use this on my skin it gives a natural looking shimmer and evens out the skin tone and looks flawless. My gripe with this product is that it looks great on me, but I believe over the last few months has been causing me to breakout on my skin with use. I have to rule it out completely but it is upsetting because it works so well. I have used it on some friends and just feel it adds a beautiful look to the face. This product retails for $35.00 CAD and can be purchased in store or on Mac's website.

All Set-Ready-Go: Mac Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder

Mac Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder

Lately I have been getting a lot of questions in regards to foundation, the right products to use as well as some tips on how to combat some of the issues that arise. I tell ladies, try this foundation I heard it works, try wearing a primer under, try a matte formulation, etc. In all of my inquiries I have been getting I for some reason forget to tell them the trick of the trade and why my makeup tends to stay in place. Finishing Powder!
Now for me I stumbled into this product one day because I hated the idea of applying a powder that added more color to my skin and then made me appear cakey. I wanted a product that would just set my foundation, or tined moisturizer, and concealer in place. Essentially "Freeze" the hard work I have done (Beating my face to the gods).
Essentially what a finishing powder does is set your make up in place, reduce the appearance of pores on the face, fill in lines and imperfections on the face and reduce some shine to the face. Now all say that and I will agree with most of the above statements except that I still see some pores and imperfections just the same.
Mac's prep and prime sets your makeup and allows for a transparent finish on the skin. I have heard woman complain that it leaves a white cast to the face with flash photography and I have yet to notice. Some even say that they have a white cast on the face the moment they have applied this product but I feel this means too much of the product has been used. Just a bit applied to the cap a swept onto a fluffy powder brush and dusted over the face is more then enough needed.
When using a under eye concealer just press a bit of it onto your brush or sponge and press it onto the under eye.
Mac Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder
Mac's Prep and prime can be purchased in Mac for $29.00 CAD and lasts forever! I am sure I have had mine for 3 years and barley placed a dent in it. The powder is odourless and silky. Due to it being fine milled it disappears on contact of the skin.

New Finds: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder

Alright beauty lovers I have found a new product that is really flattering to the skin and makes me feel I  have a glow from within. Hourglass's Ambient lighting is a finishing powder that is suppose to diffuse and soften the way light reflects on your skin. I thought it was hype and figured that the colours may not be dark skin girl friendly, however the company states that the colours are universally flattering, and they did not lie. I did some research before I visited Sephora to take a peak and do some swatching on the product and I'm glad I did. The powder delivers a luminescent glow to the skin and enhances foundation minus the look of too much glitz and glamour on the face. The powder is very picture friendly too. I know a lot of woman of colour worry about that ugly cast some powders provide but this here does nothing like that. This powder is talc free, fragrance free, and gluten free! So anyone looking for a product that does not contain harsh chemicals this one is for you. The powders come in several shades which are suppose to provide a difference effect for a desired look.  I felt like Ambient lighting was the best choice for my skin tone, however have watched Youtube and read other blogs and saw woman of colour opted for other choices. This cost a whopping  $52 in Canadian but i do feel it is worth it for the results that i have received from it! Give it a try folks!
